Enrichment Day
|
The Greenville Zoo AAZK chapter hosted another successful Enrichment Day this year! There were enrichment events scheduled throughout the day and the guests even got to help make some enrichment for the animals. Along with the fun-filled events, the zoo also received many much needed donations from our guests. These donations will help the zoo keepers continue to provide new and exciting enrichment, which will help these animals to live a long and healthy life here at the zoo. |
Animal Enrichment:
Animals in nature have to work for a living - to find food, to make nests, and to find shelter; but play is another natural activity. Whether you're an orangutan, elephant, or flamingo, play is still an important aspect of growing and learning.
Enrichment is the process of creating a challenging environment to address an animal's social, psychological, and physical needs. Enrichment aims to enhance animal activity, provide mental stimulation, and even improve the success of captive breeding of endangered species. Enrichment also engages zoo visitors by showing animals' repertoires of natural behaviors, such as playing, exploring, and foraging.
